Enormous thanks to Dr. Valerie Johnson of the University of Montevallo for giving her talk concerning the ever-evolving role of Maid Marian in the cinematic and television canon of Robin Hood! She provided a thoroughly delightful look into the character as an almost-feminist feature in film, and we can’t articulate how much we enjoyed it! And thanks to everyone who came to hear her talk! We appreciate your questions and involvement with the journal!
LURe is once again participating in Spirit Night at American Pie Pizzeria in Carrollton, GA this Thursday, February 7th, from 5:00 – 9:00pm!
LURe editors will be stationed in the restaurant offering vouchers that you can present to the cashier and contribute 15% of your dinner tab to the journal (at no extra cost to you!). The donations will support LURe as we raise funds for our highly competitive NEH grant, and all of your support will be greatly appreciated!
LURe Journal is excited to announce the 2nd annual book drive! Start off your new year by culling your shelves and donating to a good cause. All donations will support the journal in raising funds for our National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant.
In 2018, LURe has expanded immensely thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This grant has even allowed us to bring on a Plenary Speaker for the UWG English & Philosophy Undergraduate Research Conference on October 11, 2018—a first in the conference’s history!
Dr. Heidi Bollinger, an assistant professor and Deputy Chair of the English department at Hostos Community College, will be opening the conference at 10:45am with a talk about loss and grief in contemporary graphic novels as well as a broader discussion on research. Everyone is encouraged to attend!
The conference will run from 10:30am to 6:00pm in the University of West Georgia’s Campus Center’s ballrooms. Light refreshments, lunch, and snacks will be available throughout the day. The conference program will be released soon.
LURe Journal has been preparing a few fundraisers recently. Every donation and contribution is going towards LURe’s expansion moving forward. Here’s how:
Because the NEH grant is a challenge grant, this means they will match the amount we manage to raise over the next two years (up to $25,000 per year), effectively doubling the contributions you’re adding to! The more you contribute, the more the NEH contributes—a win/win!
With your help, LURe will accomplish so much more!
