#LURC18 was a Huge Success!

The English & Philosophy Undergraduate Research Conference was a wonderful spectacle of scholarly excellence. We want to thank each and every person who supported the event and participated in our activities. Our departments, plenary speaker, panelists, chairs, faculty sponsors, organizers, and audience members all worked so hard to make this one of the best conferences to date!

We would like to give special recognition to Dr. Heidi Bollinger! Her plenary was incredible, and we were so honored to have her as our first plenary speaker. Thank you for joining us!

And finally, we must announce the official release of Volume 8 of LURe! Our editorial staff is so proud of our published authors, and we’d like to say thanks to everyone who was able to come — even from as far away as Germany! Seeing Volume 8 in person is so inspiring; we cannot wait to see the potential of Volume 9. If you are interested in reading the essays in Volume 8, check out the Issues tab on our website.

Undergraduate Research Conference Plenary Speaker

Plenary-2.jpg

In 2018, LURe has expanded immensely thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This grant has even allowed us to bring on a Plenary Speaker for the UWG English & Philosophy Undergraduate Research Conference on October 11, 2018—a first in the conference’s history!

Dr. Heidi Bollinger, an assistant professor and Deputy Chair of the English department at Hostos Community College, will be opening the conference at 10:45am with a talk about loss and grief in contemporary graphic novels as well as a broader discussion on research. Everyone is encouraged to attend!

The conference will run from 10:30am to 6:00pm in the University of West Georgia’s Campus Center’s ballrooms. Light refreshments, lunch, and snacks will be available throughout the day. The conference program will be released soon.

We cannot wait to see you there!

Student Organization Fair 2018

On August 21st and August 22nd, LURe joined over sixty other organizations at the Student Organization Fair to spread awareness about the journal to University of West Georgia students. This event is significant for students looking to get involved on campus, allowing them to meet various organizations and see their options before the fall semester gets underway. Similarly, the event allowed LURe to meet new students face-to-face, let them know about us, and answer any questions they might have.

Each student who stopped by the LURe table was informed about our student-run journal, our submissions, our Undergraduate Research Conference, and the opportunity to become an integral part of the journal’s production as a staff editor. We encouraged these students to take home our informational flyers and pieces of candy, and in return, we received their e-mails to send additional information and reminders about applying for positions.

We wish to thank any student who stopped by our table and inquired about our organization! You made our first Student Organization Fair a huge success!
